MG Powers Into Third Place in UK Sales Rankings
MG Motor UK has achieved its best-ever August sales performance, securing third place in the UK’s monthly sales rankings.
The brand registered 4,960 vehicles during August, representing a market share of 5.26%—its highest monthly share of 2026. This continues a record-breaking run for MG, with new monthly sales records achieved consecutively from April through to August.
Year-to-date sales have now reached 60,904 vehicles, an increase of 19.8% compared with the 50,817 vehicles registered during the same period in 2025.
MG HS continues to impress
The MG HS played a major role in August’s success, finishing as the UK’s third best-selling car for the month. It is also the sixth best-selling car year-to-date.
Its strong performance demonstrates the continued appeal of a spacious, practical and technologically advanced SUV available with a choice of petrol, Hybrid+ and Plug-in Hybrid powertrains.
MG also remains the UK’s second best-selling hybrid car brand. Its growing electrified line-up gives customers an accessible choice of Hybrid+, Plug-in Hybrid and fully electric vehicles across a broad range of market segments.
Three accolades at the What Car? Electric Car Awards
MG’s continued momentum has been strengthened by three accolades at the What Car? Electric Car Awards 2026:
- MG4 EV Urban: Best Electric Small Car
- MG HS PHEV: Best Hybrid Family SUV
- MGS9 PHEV: Best Hybrid 7-Seat SUV
The awards recognise the breadth and competitiveness of MG’s expanding range, from the accessible MG4 EV Urban to the family-focused MG HS PHEV and spacious seven-seat MGS9 PHEV.
David Allison, Director of Product and Planning at MG Motor UK, said:
“The MG brand and product offering continues to go from strength to strength, and we are extremely proud to have achieved a top three ranking for our UK sales performance in August. The demand for our cars is a reflection of the continuing growth of our brand appeal and the breadth of our product line-up. Our multi-powertrain offerings across a broad range of vehicle sectors make the MG portfolio among the strongest on the market today.”
