MGS5 EV Named Most Reliable Small Family Electric SUV

The MGS5 EV has taken first place in its class in a nationwide 2026 UK vehicle reliability survey, with MG also celebrating its first-ever top-ten finish in the brand rankings.

There’s more good news for drivers considering an electric MG. Alongside the MGS5 EV’s class-leading result, the MG5 electric estate secured third place among all electric cars in the survey.

Based on the experiences of 39,332 UK vehicle owners, the survey covered 225 models and 30 brands, assessing reliability over a 24-month period. It considered repair costs and time off the road as well as faults, reflecting how problems affect everyday ownership.

MG enters the top ten

MG was named the year’s most-improved manufacturer, finishing ninth out of 30 brands. Its overall score rose from 88.9% to 92.0%, securing the brand’s first top-ten result.

For us at W H Brand MG, these results are welcome recognition of the progress MG has made in supporting its customers and improving the ownership experience.

Electric practicality for everyday life

The MGS5 EV combines its reliability recognition with the space, comfort and flexibility families need.

Key features include:

  • Up to 298 miles of range in the SE Long Range, measured on the WLTP combined cycle.
  • 10–80% rapid charging in approximately 28 minutes for the 64kWh battery using a suitable 150kW DC charger, depending on vehicle and charging conditions.
  • A 453-litre boot, including underfloor storage, expanding to 1,441 litres with the rear seats folded.
  • A 12.8-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
  • A seven-year/80,000-mile manufacturer warranty, for added peace of mind.

Built on MG’s dedicated electric vehicle platform, its ultra-thin battery helps maximise cabin space. Soft-touch materials and physical controls for key functions also make the interior comfortable and straightforward to use.

Investment in customer support

These results follow continued investment in MG’s parts distribution, dealership training and technical support.

MG’s parts warehouse in Daventry supports overnight deliveries to participating dealers, with first-time parts fulfilment reaching approximately 96% in 2026 to date.

Around £500,000 of investment in the Cecil Kimber College MG Academy at Longbridge has doubled the training centre’s size and increased delegate capacity four-fold. Specialist field engineers also help dealerships diagnose and resolve complex faults, while an expanded replacement-vehicle programme supports eligible customers following qualifying breakdowns.
